I am representing my son in a disability case. I am a paralegal and have brought him up to the administrative review point. Will be turning over to a lawyer at this point. I used phraseology such as "cumulative effect" and "substantive disability" and believe this contributed to the fast response of SS. However, I was told by our local office that the backlog of cases in Florida creates a possible 2 year wait for the hearing. What can I or his lawyer do to get him in front of a judge as soon as possible? One of his conditions is very rare - if it were an "orphan disease" or something, would this help? How about writing the assigned judge to request sooner hearing? How do we find out who the assigned judge is? Would he do better to transfer to another state?
